Q&A Series: #GALSNGEAR Connect
The #GALSNGEAR Women’s Leadership Summit is an opportunity to focus on your personalized career path. In advance of this year’s conference at NAB Show, the #GALSNGEAR team offers their perspective on current industry challenges.
Read on to learn more about this unique, half-day event that connects you with a community of like-minded women in media and entertainment.
Q. What are the biggest trends impacting the community/industry right now?
We continue to see the democratization of content via affordable and efficient tools enabling a more diverse pool of creatives — everything from new platforms to capture, render and stream 3D volumetric video to blockchain technologies offering independents a path to content monetization. One of the trends we’re less happy about is not enough mid-career women — especially women of color — progressing into higher management.
Q. What challenges do media companies need to overcome because of these trends?
That second trend caused us to launch our Leadership initiative in 2020 and we will host our #GALSNGEAR CONNECT Women’s Leadership Summit on April 18 during NAB Show. This half day leadership intensive includes hands-on workshopping, networking and high-level discussions to support women at every stage of their leadership journeys in media and entertainment.
Q. What’s one thing you wish more media pros knew about?
It takes more than tech to propel a company or an idea. You need to mentor people, give them opportunities to shine, to learn, and also to risk failure. Send your younger team members to NAB Show, so they can absorb the amazing innovations in our industry!
Q. What are the top three things that attendees should hunt down on the show floor to expand what they just learned in your sessions?
Look for our #GALSNGEAR mentors with our student broadcast team! They will be filming interviews on the show floor and would love to hear about how you got into your career, and your favorite tool or tech.
